Brief Description of Course:

Welcome to 7th grade ELA! The focus of this class will be to provide students with the opportunity to build their language arts skills, specifically in the areas of reading and writing, along with skills in language, speaking, and listening as outlined in the common core standards. Ela classwork/Homework Due 11.1.16. The People Could Fly - Classwork/Homework due 11.1.16. This will be on Lessons 4-8. I will post a review on this blog when we wrap up Lesson 8, but remember since so much of the reading class is done in class, the student's attendance and attention in class is crucial to do well. Grade 7 students will explore the origins, histories and movements of peoples, who

forged the foundations of Canadian Confederation.They will examine the political, demographic, economic and social changes that have occurred since Confederation and

how it has influenced ways in which contemporary Canada has evolved.

Key Outcomes

7.1 - Students will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the distinct roles of, and the relationships among, the Aboriginal, French and British peoples in forging the foundations of Canadian Confederation.

Students will appreciate the influence of diverse Aboriginal, French and British peoples on events leading to Confederation.

Students will appreciate the challenges of co-existence among peoples.

7.2 - Students will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of how the political, demographic, economic and social changes that have occurred since Confederation have presented challenges and opportunities for individuals and communities.

Students will recognize the positive and negative aspects of immigration, migration and the consequences of political decisions. Students will appreciate the challenges that individuals and communities face when confronted with rapid change

EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Formative work is mandatory. All formative work must be completed in order for students to be successful on summative assessments. Failure to complete formative work will result in any combination of the following:

mandatory after school to complete work

or given three days to complete the outstanding work

Summative work is mandatory.All summative work must be completed to accurately

assess a student’s understanding of course goals and outcomes. If a student fails to complete

a summative assignment, he or she will be required to come up with a reasonable plan for

completing the assigned work. Parent contact will be made should the student fall short of the

agreed upon plan. If the assigned work continues to be outstanding on day three, the student

will be placed in on-campus reassignment until the work is complete.
